U 19 Developing team – U18 Prepare a plan for a business event

In this assignment I will compare the roles of the different members of the team and evaluate the team overall effectiveness in meeting its objectives. I will also make recommendations for improvements. 

The team is made by business course student. I am one of the team members. It is a team that focus on a project joins this summer.  This projects it to start an event at Spitalfields city farm. We decided to do a charity which is to raise money for the farm animal. There are five people in our team and each person is good at different area. Each member in the team has certain set of relevant skills and knowledge. 

I am managing the team which is the team manager. Steven is the team leader who will be responsible for leading the team and coordinating with every individual in the team. Abdiaziz is responsible for marketing such as promotional and advertisement. Tunde is responsible for administration and external communication. 

Because I have experience on management and also I am confident that the event will go successfully under my lead so I suggest myself to be the team manager and others agree with it. 

When coming to the projects work, everyone gets the advantage of shared knowledge and experience. It can make the work easier, if a person work alone on a project, the person may struggle with some aspects of it because of the limited experience and knowledge. When we doing the Spitalfields city farm project work, we always pair up to do different task.  For example I am good with giving out ideas and planning things, but as my English is not as good as Steven so every time I’ve finished something, he will check my grammar and spelling to make sure it`s all make sense . He also puts the idea in detail in order to make it in action. 

Within a team, the manager and leader are reasonable for different things. For example, I am more focuses on systems and structure about how to do the event or how to make the event better, leader would be having more focuses on people such as giving out the task and make sure everyone meeting the deadline. I have to make sure things are right and leader makes sure everyone does the right things. 

There is lots of paper work such as agenda and meeting recoding need to done at the end of the project work. Things like this need to be always up to data so it is better if just one person taking the reasonability for both of them. Tunde`s writing skill is the best in our team therefore he is the right person to be in charge. Something I will tell him what to write and he will put the words in the way how people can understand easy without grammar mistake and join external communication, I will tell Tunde who to email and what the email need to be include, then Tunde will write the letter in a formal way and send to the person.

Abdiaziz has the personality of if you give him too many things to do at once, he will get confused and don`t know what to do or where to start. He is reasonable for marketing.  Marketing mix which is price, place, product and promotion, we are all very clear of each of them. Within promotion, the promotion mix is advertising and the way how to sell our product. Because we are doing a charity, therefore there is no need for consider how to sell staff, so advertising is the only thing left. So basically Abdiaziz is reasonable for advertising. 

When come to the single task, he has the ability to focus and get it down on time with great quality. If he is in the position of me or Steven, he probably will get really confused and do not know what is the next action which will lead to delay of the event and evidence work. 

After the 3nd of June, we have successfully finished our event, Although everyone were in the position of doing the event without any confusion , but there are still lots of recommendations for improvements can be take in consideration. 

For example, the goals of the event weren’t very clear. We said that the goal is to raise money as much as possible. But it was not specific enough.

 In order to have a clear team goal, the goal must be support the team`s purpose. The goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, and realistic and time related. For example ”we need to raise £10 at the end of the day.”

Creating a quality improvement plan would also help for improvements.  In the plan, should include the purpose of the event, outline the teams goals, the strategy toward the event and how to reaching the goals. The plan must should the responsibilities of each person on the team clearly. 

Giving feedback when doing the project and after a project is complete. Explain what worked well, what did not and the results of their project. Where are simply meetings where the team members come together to discuss the team`s results and future plans. Constructive feedback is also a way to improve teamwork. 

Good quality team can benefit every team member within the team and provide better quality work.  It is important that all the team sick together working toward their goals, it will definitely help the team to do the event more successful.
